Abstract: The strict confinement implemented by the National Government of Colombia in 2020 to contain the expansion of the pandemic caused by COVID-19 generated challenges in data collection operations through household surveys. As a result, the surveys with face-to-face collection methods migrated to a remote mode using telephone surveys. We exploit the geographical-temporal exogenous variation in the collection mode of the leading household survey for the Colombian labor market (Gran Encuesta Integrada de Hogares - GEIH) and the linkage of the survey to the nationwide social security administrative record (Registro Estadístico de Relaciones Laborales - RELAB) to measure the impact on measured labor income. The results show strong evidence that the change in collection method reduces the measured income and that there are differences between population groups.
